Torino are observing the circumstances of Celtic's Belgian central midfielder, Arne Engels, as the Italian club has been alerted to the Scottish side's potential interest in their midfielder, Gvidas Gineitis, as a possible replacement. Engels, who is 22 years old, is admired by clubs in England and elsewhere, including Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace, AS Roma, and AFC Bournemouth. Celtic signed Engels from FC Augsburg for £11.5 million in the summer of 2024 and expect to sell him for a fee that surpasses the £25 million record they received from Brighton and Hove Albion for Matt O'Riley. Aware of the interest in Engels, Torino are anticipating an approach for Gineitis.

The Serie A side will seek €15 million for their midfielder if Celtic needs to find a replacement for Engels this summer. This valuation is an increase from a previous figure of around £9 million, a change which new Italian reports are said to suggest. Nottingham Forest are reportedly very interested in Engels and may use some of the £116 million they acquired from the Eliot Anderson deal to finance a transfer. The four-cap Belgium international has a contract with Celtic until June 2028 and a current Transfermarkt market value of €20.00m; he recorded 13 goals and 7 assists in 55 league appearances in the 2025/2026 season. Celtic's asking price was reported in June 2026 to be between €25 million and €30 million after a bid of around £25 million from Nottingham Forest was reportedly rejected earlier in the year.
