Negotiations between Thorgan Hazard and Anderlecht regarding a contract extension were difficult, as the club reportedly felt the 33-year-old did not show enough leadership. A decision has been made for him to leave at the end of the season, and his new club is known. The attacker is expected to return to RC Lens, where he began his professional career. Other clubs, such as Zulte Waregem, had been mentioned as possibilities in recent months.

Lens is offering a two-year contract and a more appealing sporting project, which could include Champions League football next season due to the club's current second-place standing in Ligue 1. Although Hazard would have to accept a pay cut compared to his Anderlecht deal, he would still earn over 1 million euros annually before bonuses. The transfer is reportedly only awaiting signatures to be completed. The Belgian international has 47 caps and 9 goals for his country. He joined Anderlecht in September 2023. His current market value is listed by Transfermarkt as €2.50m.
