Premier League side Sunderland considered 22-year-old Zambian international Miguel Chaiwa their second choice for a holding midfield role, and their main target was Jules Ahoka. Sunderland, managed by Régis Le Bris, had identified Chaiwa as an alternative option, but their interest has ended after the club officially completed the signing of Ahoka from Royal Antwerp. This development removes a potential destination for Chaiwa, who has 16 caps for his country, before the summer transfer window closes.

There is no indication that Sunderland ever made a formal bid for Chaiwa, or that any talks took place between Sunderland and Hibs. The midfielder joined Hibernian in August 2025, has a contract until May 2028, and has also been linked with Celtic. Reports from August 2026 state Hibernian's valuation is £4 million or more, while his current Transfermarkt market value is €3.00m.
