Rangers have registered an interest in Schalke 04's 23-year-old German and Moroccan midfielder, Soufiane El-Faouzi, but face significant competition. Celtic are also interested in the player, but it is thought both Scottish clubs may lack the financial power to compete with rivals from England. Premier League clubs Sunderland and Brentford are understood to be well-placed to sign him, with additional interest coming from Bologna in Italy and Rennes in France.

Schalke are reluctant to sell the midfielder, who was an important player in their promotion to the Bundesliga, and the German club will demand a fee of £10 million. El-Faouzi, who joined Schalke from Alemannia Aachen for a reported €200,000 in July 2025, has a contract until June 2029 and his current market value is €4.00m, according to Transfermarkt. In May 2026, reports detailed a rejected €11 million official offer from Shabab Al Ahli, and Schalke reportedly set their own valuation at €12 million.
