Rangers enquire about Sheffield Wednesday defender Max Lowe

The defender is the subject of a transfer enquiry but a move this month is considered slim.

Rangers manager Danny Rohl is interested in working again with 28-year-old English defender Max Lowe, and the club made an enquiry for the Sheffield Wednesday defender earlier in the window. Lowe joined Wednesday on a free transfer from Sheffield United last summer. He is currently out with a calf injury and is not expected to return until at least early February. It is unclear whether Rangers will make a formal offer. The chances of Lowe leaving this month are considered slim, and it is reported that the player has no immediate desire to move.

As his contract is set to expire in the summer, Rangers could open pre-contract talks with the defender because the club is based outside of England. Last summer, Lowe had previously handed in his notice at Wednesday, which led to interest from clubs including Preston and Leicester City before he ultimately decided to stay. In the current Championship season, Lowe has made 20 appearances, providing one assist. He has 6 caps for the England U20 team. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is €2.20m.
