Obed Vargas, a 21-year-old Mexican international midfielder, will remain at Atlético de Madrid for the 26-27 season despite interest from several clubs in Spain and abroad. Getafe, Valencia, Sevilla, Alavés, and Feyenoord were all monitoring the player's situation. Although a loan was considered to give Vargas more playing time, negotiations were not completed. During the final weeks of the transfer window, Deportivo Alavés, Sevilla, and later Getafe all appeared close to signing the player, but none of the moves were finalized.
Previously, Borussia Dortmund had an interest in Vargas before Atlético de Madrid signed him in February 2026 from Seattle Sounders for a fee reportedly between €3.0m and €8.0m. His contract with the club runs until 2030 and he has nine caps for Mexico. The player's current market value is estimated by Transfermarkt at €10.00m.
