Newcastle United has made an offer of twelve million euros for Moritz Nicolas, a 28-year-old German goalkeeper. The Premier League club is seeking to develop a new primary goalkeeper behind Nick Pope. Nicolas is a former Germany youth international who joined Borussia Mönchengladbach in July 2016.
He has a contract with the club until 2029, which permits the club to negotiate a transfer fee without restriction. Sporting director Rouven Schröder is reportedly hoping for a payment of at least 15 million euros. The Bundesliga club has also identified Tjark Ernst of Hertha BSC as a potential replacement, who is available for a fixed fee of five million euros. According to Transfermarkt, Nicolas has a current market value of €8.00m and he has also been linked with VfL Wolfsburg and Aston Villa. A release clause, which was reportedly active until the end of June 2026, was valued between €10 million and €15 million.
