Newcastle scouts watch Grêmio defender Viery

The Premier League club has reportedly been observing the player ahead of a potential transfer.

Representatives from Premier League club Newcastle United were present at Arena Grêmio on Sunday, March 1, to watch 21-year-old Brazilian defender Viery, who started in the decisive state championship match against Internacional. It has been reported that the 'Magpies' have been observing the player for years, since his time in the youth categories. Earlier in the year, Botafogo made two unsuccessful bids for the defender. Viery, a graduate of Grêmio's academy, renewed his contract in January, extending his deal until the end of 2029 with a release clause set at around 50 million euros for foreign clubs.

Newcastle is still considering its final targets before deciding whether to make formal approaches in the mid-year transfer window, which is the most significant for European clubs. His current Transfermarkt market value is €300k. This season, Viery has made 6 appearances in the Campeonato Gaúcho, scoring one goal and providing one assist, and has also made one appearance in Série A.
