Moussa Sylla's transfer to New York City stalls

The planned transfer for the Malian international did not proceed as planned following his medical check.

Moussa Sylla's transfer from Schalke to New York City did not proceed as planned, despite the 26-year-old Malian international already being in the USA to complete the move. Minor ailments were discovered during his medical check, which led New York City to change its proposal from a prospective seven million euro transfer fee to a loan. Schalke considered the loan option to be significantly less favorable than a permanent sale.

Although a transfer could still happen before the window in the USA closes on March 26, it appears Sylla will stay at Schalke at present, as the player posted on his Instagram story that he was coming home. The centre-forward has six caps for Mali, joined Schalke in July 2024, and has a contract until June 2028. This season in the 2. Bundesliga, he has scored four goals and provided two assists in 17 appearances. His current market value is €5.00m, according to Transfermarkt.
