FSV Mainz 05, who are at the bottom of the Bundesliga, are reportedly considering a January transfer for Nottingham Forest's Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi to help them avoid relegation. The German club has made the 28-year-old their offensive priority. According to a previous report by Africafoot, another Bundesliga club, Werder Bremen, has also shown interest.
Awoniyi, who is said to be lacking playing time at his current club, might favour a return to a league where he has previously played for Mainz during the 2019/20 season. A transfer could also reunite him with his former mentor from Union Berlin, Urs Fischer. The player is under contract with Nottingham Forest until 2027, with a current valuation of 12 million euros and an annual salary of 2,992,948 euros. The forward has 10 caps and 2 goals for Nigeria and has made 5 appearances in the Premier League this season without scoring.
