Johnny Kenny joins Bolton Wanderers on loan

An Irish Celtic striker has completed a loan transfer after interest from German and English clubs.

Although German side Schalke and English Championship clubs had shown interest in Johnny Kenny, the 22-year-old Irish Celtic striker has joined English League One club Bolton Wanderers on a loan deal until the end of the season. The deadline day move was completed after Bolton, who had identified the player last summer, acted quickly upon learning Celtic would permit a loan. The player confirmed Bolton had contacted him extensively during the summer, while Bolton's manager, Steven Schumacher, stated they did not think he would be available during the window.

In June 2025, reports stated that Bolton Wanderers made a bid of approximately €600,000 (£500,000), which was rejected by Celtic, with the Scottish club reportedly asking for a fee of around €1,200,000 (£1,000,000) at the time. The centre-forward, who has one cap for Ireland, has scored 4 goals and provided 2 assists in 15 Scottish Premiership appearances this season and has a current market value of €600k, according to Transfermarkt.
