Rangers captain James Tavernier has announced he will be leaving the club, which he joined in 2015, at the end of the season. The English right-back, who turns 35 in October, will be available on a free transfer this summer. It has been suggested that a Championship side, Birmingham City, could benefit from signing him, and it is noted that the club is expected to have a busy transfer window.
The signing would provide Birmingham with a greater goal threat from another area of the field and would be a significant upgrade on current right-back Bright Osayi-Samuel. Osayi-Samuel has been described as disappointing since joining last summer. Tavernier could also compete with Ethan Laird for the position. According to Transfermarkt, the player has a current market value of €1.00m. He has also been linked with Motherwell, Panathinaikos, and Derby County.
