Ipswich Town and Rangers are contenders for Sunderland's 24-year-old English central midfielder, Dan Neil. Neil, a playmaker and former captain, was omitted from the squad for a game against West Ham, even though current skipper Granit Xhaka was injured. This omission is viewed as a signal that Neil could be transferred before the transfer deadline. It is reported that Rangers' interest in the player has intensified due to an injury to Connor Barron.
Neil joined Sunderland in July 2021. He has been capped three times for England's U20 team and has made three Premier League appearances this season. His contract expires in June 2026. His current market value is estimated by Transfermarkt at €6.50m. In the spring of 2025, reports suggested that Sunderland would have found it difficult to reject offers in the range of £15-£20 million.
