Inter is reportedly interested in Lautaro Rivero, a 22-year-old Argentinian defender for River Plate who recently returned from a loan at Central Cordoba. The player has also been noticed by Argentina's coach, Lionel Scaloni, and has earned one cap for the national team. Javier Zanetti, the vice president of Inter, is described as one of Rivero's primary supporters. Zanetti considers Rivero a significant prospect for the club's future.

Rivero joined his current club in January 2024, has a contract until the end of 2028, and has made 10 appearances in the 2025/2026 Torneo Apertura, scoring one goal. Several Premier League clubs, including Brighton & Hove Albion, West Ham United, and Leeds United, have also been linked with the player. His current Transfermarkt market value is €7.00m. It was reported in February 2026 that River Plate expects a sale for more than €30 million.
