Hibernian complete loan deal for Munashe Garananga

The defender completes a deadline day loan transfer from FC Copenhagen for the rest of the season.

Hibernian have completed a loan deal for FC Copenhagen defender Munashe Garananga for the rest of the season. The 25-year-old centre-back's transfer to Easter Road was arranged quickly on deadline day, as the club was seeking defensive reinforcement after Charlton Athletic recalled a loanee. The transfer was also timely because of injuries in the squad. The Zimbabwean international, who moved to Copenhagen from Mechelen for £3m in 2024 but had become a less-preferred player, travelled from the Danish capital to Edinburgh on Monday evening to complete the deal. Hibs became the preferred club ahead of an unnamed MLS club that was also interested in the defender, reaching an agreement during the final hours of the transfer window. Garananga was the third player to join Hibs on the last day of the transfer period.

Head coach David Gray expressed his pleasure with the signing, stating that Garananga is a quick and aggressive centre-back who is comfortable in possession. Sporting director Mackay also commented on the player's experience and thanked sporting director Nils Koppen and FC Copenhagen for their involvement in a deal that proceeded smoothly. The defender has earned 17 caps for Zimbabwe, scoring one goal, and his contract with his parent club, FC Copenhagen, runs until June 2028. This season in the Danish Superliga, Garananga has made 5 appearances and scored one goal. Transfermarkt estimates his current market value at €2.00m.
