Olivier Deschacht made a public appeal for Romelu Lukaku, the 33-year-old Belgian centre-forward, to return to Anderlecht soon, stating that the striker has proven himself abroad and has earned enough money. Deschacht highlighted Lukaku's value by referencing his performance against France, where he effectively held the ball against formidable defenders, and questioned why he couldn't score 25 goals for Anderlecht. However, Deschacht believes a return would be conditional on Lukaku being surrounded by the right people and being allowed to bring in players of his choosing.

A return in the coming summer is considered a possibility, as Lukaku's contract with Fenerbahçe runs until 2027 with a one-year option that the Turkish club is not expected to activate for the time being. Although Lukaku had a difficult start in Turkey, his performance has reportedly improved recently. Anderlecht fans are hopeful for his return, which some see as a final opportunity given the striker will be 34 by then. Lukaku, who has 135 caps and 94 goals for Belgium, joined Fenerbahçe in August 2026 for a reported fee of €6 million, potentially rising to €9 million. His current Transfermarkt market value is €6.00m.
