Heracles Almelo has announced the signing of Erik Ahlstrand, who is joining the club on loan from St. Pauli for the remainder of the season. The agreement for the 24-year-old midfielder contains an option for a permanent transfer. Ahlstrand moved to St. Pauli from his home country's club Halmstad in early 2024 for a €650,000 fee. He did not play for the German club's first team this season, but made eight appearances for the reserves, scoring three goals.
Ernest Faber, Heracles' technical director and trainer, stated that they consider the one-cap Sweden international to be a versatile player for all midfield positions and as a striker. Ahlstrand mentioned that Heracles had been interested for some time and that he was drawn to the club's structure and the attacking style of play in the Eredivisie. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is estimated to be €500k.
