Coventry City are considering Sunderland's English goalkeeper Anthony Patterson as an alternative option if they cannot sign their primary target, Carl Rushworth, on a permanent deal from Brighton. Securing Rushworth may be difficult as his parent club's plans are unclear and other teams, such as Ipswich, have also been linked with him. Journalist Alan Nixon revealed that Patterson is still being considered by Coventry.
The 25-year-old, who has one cap for England's U21 side, was influential in Sunderland's promotion last season but was replaced this term and subsequently joined Millwall on loan in January, making 10 appearances in the Championship. Patterson's long-term future at the Stadium of Light is in doubt, and it is thought he will want to move for regular football upon his return. Other clubs, including Leicester City and Southampton, have also been linked with the player, whose market value is estimated by Transfermarkt to be €8.00m.
