GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs has stated that Celtic have made an enquiry for Basel winger Philip Otele, and that Otele is expected to leave the Swiss club during the January transfer window. Basel are reportedly ready to listen to offers worth £6m or more for the 26-year-old Nigerian. The club reduced its asking price from the summer, when it was under £13m and a move to Fulham almost happened.
The player is said to be keen on joining Celtic, but they face competition from a number of other clubs, including further interest from the Premier League. Wolverhampton Wanderers are targeting Otele, while Bournemouth have made contact to understand the conditions of a potential deal. Championship side Birmingham and Serie A club Lazio have also made enquiries for the Nigerian-born forward.
Otele joined Basel in July 2025 and is under contract until June 2028. In the current Super League season, he has scored 4 goals and provided 3 assists in 19 appearances. Transfermarkt estimates his current market value to be €5.00m, and Basel reportedly purchased his contract for €3 million.
