Celtic representatives have reportedly contacted KV Mechelen to inquire about the availability of Thérence Koudou, a 21-year-old French and Ivorian right-back, as a potential replacement if Alistair Johnston leaves before the transfer window closes. Celtic have spoken with the Belgian club, which is believed to be seeking around €6.5 million for the defender. There is no suggestion that a formal bid has been made, as the contact was only to inquire about his availability.
Any potential move for Koudou, who came through the Reims academy, is likely dependent on Johnston's future, with the Canada international having been linked to Everton. It was also reported that scouts from the Premier League club attended Celtic's 1-0 win over Dundee. The interest in Koudou suggests the club is preparing alternatives should a formal offer for Johnston be made by Everton or another team. Koudou, who has one cap for France U21, joined Mechelen in July 2025 and is under contract until 2029. In the 2025/2026 season, he made 37 appearances in the Jupiler Pro League, scoring 5 goals and providing 2 assists. His current market value is estimated by Transfermarkt to be €4.00m.
