Celtic have inquired about the conditions for a potential transfer for Al Ahly's Egyptian midfielder, Emam Ashour, as they consider adding more players to Martin O’Neill's squad. The club has inquired about the financial details with both Al Ahly and the player's representatives. Celtic consider the 28-year-old, who has previous European experience with FC Midtjylland, to be a No. 8 who can also play in defensive midfield. The midfielder has 34 caps and 2 goals for Egypt.
A deal could be completed for approximately £4m, although some reports have suggested a higher transfer fee could be demanded. Al Ahly, which Ashour joined in July 2023, are in a strong negotiating position as his contract runs until 2028, but the deal's conditions are not currently considered impossible and his wages are considered manageable. However, Celtic could have competition, as there is reportedly interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia and England. Al Taawoun and Al Duhail have also been linked with the player.
