Scouts from Premier League clubs Brentford and Brighton were sent to watch Moncef Zekri play against Anderlecht last weekend. Zekri is a 17-year-old Moroccan and Belgian youth international, and it was reported that he performed well for an hour. The two English clubs are expected to meet with the entourage of Zekri, who is a left-back, in the coming weeks to present their sporting projects. It is said that the prospect of playing time is a decisive factor for Zekri.
A year ago, before he signed his first professional contract, he had also attracted interest from clubs that included Ajax and Bayer Leverkusen. According to an estimate by Transfermarkt, Zekri's value is €4 million. His contract with KV Mechelen runs until 2028, which gives the club a strong negotiating position. This season, Zekri has made 16 appearances in the Jupiler Pro League and has 20 caps for the Morocco U17 team.
