Borussia Mönchengladbach and fellow German club VfL Wolfsburg considered bringing Ko Itakura back to Germany. Gladbach's sporting director, Rouven Schröder, wanted the 29-year-old Japanese Centre-Back to return to Borussia Park after he had moved to Ajax for eleven million euros the previous summer. A transfer for the defender was not possible for Borussia Mönchengladbach.
According to a previous report from De Telegraaf, Ajax was not planning to sell Itakura. The Japanese international has 39 appearances and 2 goals for his country and has a contract with the Amsterdam club until June 30, 2029. In the current Eredivisie season, he has made 14 appearances, scoring one goal. Transfermarkt currently estimates his market value to be €10 million.
