Borussia Dortmund has become the latest club to be interested in signing Celtic's Belgian central midfielder, Arne Engels. The 22-year-old received offers in the January transfer window, and Celtic rejected a £25 million bid from Nottingham Forest. According to the Transfer Insider podcast, Dortmund is now preparing an attempt to sign him and could increase its interest. There is speculation that Engels could be allowed to leave for a suitable price in the summer, with other clubs from the Bundesliga, Premier League, and Serie A also observing the situation.
Engels, who has four caps for Belgium, is under contract with Celtic until June 2028, having joined from FC Augsburg in August 2024 for a reported €11m. Lazio and RB Leipzig are among the other clubs to have been recently reported to be interested in the player. In January 2026, amid interest from RB Leipzig, reports suggested Celtic would demand €15-20m, and in April 2026, Lazio was reported to value the player in a similar range. His current Transfermarkt valuation is €18.00m.
