Blackburn Rovers make late attempt to sign Tawanda Maswanhise

The club is reportedly making a late attempt for the Motherwell forward's transfer.

Blackburn Rovers are making a late attempt to sign Motherwell forward Tawanda Maswanhise, who was released by Leicester City in 2024. The club's interest follows manager Valerien Ismael stating to BBC Radio Lancashire that his focus was on offensive additions before the window closes, after a move for another attacking target did not materialize. Blackburn's owners are prepared to support Ismael and are willing to commit a significant fee for the Zimbabwean attacker, who has scored 16 goals this season. Rovers have the budget available and are prepared to offer up to £1.5 million.

The Lancashire side has reportedly been tracking the 23-year-old for some time and hopes a late effort will succeed. Other clubs have monitored the situation but have not yet made formal bids. However, The Daily Record previously reported that Motherwell warned potential suitors they would not be rushed into a sale. This warning came after Celtic were also credited with interest. The winger, who joined Motherwell in August 2024, is under contract until May 2027 and has earned 17 caps for Zimbabwe, scoring 2 goals. His current market value is listed by Transfermarkt as €700k, and Rangers have also been linked with him.
