Simon Rolfes of Bayer Leverkusen has indicated he would make an exception to the club's general policy of not re-signing former players for 26-year-old German international Kai Havertz. Following a Champions League match against FC Arsenal, Rolfes admitted that he has a fondness for the centre-forward and that he begins to consider possibilities whenever they talk.

Havertz transferred from Leverkusen to FC Chelsea in 2020 for a €100 million fee and has been with the current Premier League leaders since 2023. A return to Bayer Leverkusen is currently ruled out, with his salary noted as being around €20 million per year, placing him among the top earners in the English league. However, the possibility for a future comeback remains open. Havertz's contract at Arsenal runs until 2028, and he has 55 caps and 20 goals for Germany. His current market value is €50.00m, according to Transfermarkt. FC Bayern München has also been recently linked with the player.
