Bayer 04 Leverkusen is assessing several goalkeeper candidates, including James Trafford, due to the long-term absence of their regular keeper Mark Flekken. The 23-year-old Trafford, who is currently the second-choice goalkeeper at Manchester City, needs match practice ahead of the summer World Cup.
The English player is extremely focused on the Premier League. Trafford joined City from Burnley in July 2025 for a reported €31.2 million and has a contract until 2030. He has made 3 Premier League appearances this season and has not yet made a senior appearance for England. His current Transfermarkt market value is €25.00m, and besides Leverkusen, he has also been associated with interest from Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur. Filip Jörgensen of FC Chelsea is also among the goalkeepers being considered by the German club.
