Atlético Madrid is seeking to sign one or two midfielders and is monitoring Manchester City's Spanish midfielder Nicolás González as a potential option. It is reported that their primary target is Joao Gomes of Wolverhampton, but Atlético are also monitoring two players from City, one of whom is the 24-year-old González.
González is a former FC Barcelona youth player who was signed by City from FC Porto in February 2025 to cover for the long-term absence of Rodrigo Hernández. With Rodrigo now recovered, González's role at the club has not been guaranteed. He has a contract until 2029 and a market valuation of 45 million euros. The midfielder has been capped 11 times for Spain's U21 team, and FC Barcelona has also been linked with him. His move to Manchester City was for a reported fee of €60 million, following an €8.4 million transfer from Barcelona to Porto in July 2023.
